representaion essay london riots
Kai Harvey
London riots 2011 representation essay
In the London riots youth was represented as dangerous in
the media and are criticized and looked down apron for the minority action and
this was caused by the media mainly publicizing.
Most of the images the media showed youths only wearing
hoodies, tracksuits and balaclavas or masks and carrying weapons which presents
all youths that wear hoodies and tracksuits as vile criminals. Now when youths
wear hoodies people around them make the assumption that they are hiding their face
to commit a crime when most youths wear it for fashion.by only publicising
youths in this type of clothing with weapons and committing heinous acts
influences the public opinions greatly on youths and what they are like. This ideology
was still in place before the riots which separated the youths and the
community was one thing and the youth community was another and this separation
could be argued to be the cause of the riots and to continue to do this is not
logical in any way
As well as labelling criminals by the way they dress
they also described youths as feral, despicable and without morals which allows
the rest of society to think these things when they see a youth on the street
and has greatly set back and lowed the opinion of all youths over London, by
only publicizing the minority of youths that are like they say and did not publicise
the youths that helped clean up the community and the youths that went out to
protect their area from being badly damaged. The Medias use of feral describes
the youth as animalistic that have rejected societal norms. This description shows
that they have become wild and the sophisticated society that we are widely
used to means nothing to them. The media also used despicable which backs up my
point on feral as the use of despicable is usually used when someone is describing
an action or actions that will never be accepted by our current society, as you
can see there is a running theme with the terminology that the media is using which
separates the youth from the rest one society which is said to one of the
causes of the riots in the first place.
Throughout the riots news broadcasts were repeatedly showing
majority youth violence which further pushes through my point that the media portrays
youth as the majority of criminals and like I said above that they didn’t
document the good things youths were doing not nearly as much as the bad thing
that were going on, furthermore the also edit the broadcasts in a way that
makes youths come from a gritty back ground and this is shown through the
interviews taken with young people the background was almost always graffiti or
a dirty looking street where as the news reporters covering the story had nice scenery
like the sun hitting the trees as their background that suggests that they are
more civilised than the nation’s youths.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2024284/UK-riots-2011-Liberal-dogma-spawned-generation-brutalised-youths.htmlafter reading this article it shows that there are truly higher or middle class people who have conceited views on youths by saying that they have no authority or education, are an "absolute dead weight to society", "we only have loyalty to our local gangs" and "we have only animal instincts that respond only to eating, sleeping, having sex and destroying any accessible property that belongs to others". it is this view that again separates the apparent "amoral and brutalised sub culture of youths" today and it is this separation that causes a rift between us and the rest of sociaty. if we are forever labelled as this we can never feel as an equal and respected member of society. the reason for them to continues to push this seperation is that they only pay attension to the minorty of youths do have no education and act stupidly but thier is a minorty of adults that commit fraud and more seroius crimes but we dont label all adults to be criminals. This article and many like it give off the impression that they think they are of a higher status than youths and that we youths are less human than they are based of thier repeted use of words like "feral", "beast like" and "animalistic" which discourages people both adults and youth alike to communicate and break down the communication barrier that has been built by views like this one
In conclusion the media represented youths as animals that were separate from society, like I said above that this very ideology could be the basis on which the riots started. This helps my argument that it was the youth separation from society and the fear of youth violence was the cause of the 2011 London riots

audience and institution past paper questions
1. discuss the ways in which media products are produced and distributed to audiences within a media area, which you have studied
The media area i will specking about is film and how it is produced and distributed. the hunger games catching fire film was produced with new, top of the range technology to give the viewer the best experience while watching the film. For example they used the Digital Intermediate (4K) (master format) which is highly praised and basically means they bring the film quality to a 4k resolution which is a very high quality picture through out the film.
All the top quality technology was funded from the first films great success and gave the second instalment a very large budget of $130 000 000 and gained a gross of $407,999,255. it wasn't just the technology that drew in the audience the cast and the director also played a part in bringing the audience the cast and director. the main cast members that brought people in were Jennifer Laurence for her work in the x men first class film and the first hunger games film and Liam Hemmsworth for his work in expendables 2 and also the first hunger games film. This film was directed by Francis Lawrence who also directed the known masterpiece I am legend which is loved through out the film community so film fanatics were going crazy that he was working on the hunger games franchise.
The hunger games were distributed internationally to all the main cinemas (odeon,vue....) around the world by Warner brother going in with such a big buzz and the backing of a wold wide conglomerate the film was in the audiences eyes was already a master piece. and is set to be released on blue ray, DVD netflix and love film which shows that the market is changing from just cinema based releases to and a internet dominated media industry
the film was marketed very well with lots of sponsors from big companies like subway and cover girl which kept the film in the public eye which in turn kept the films buzz going all the way in til release.
the hunger games catching fire film also dominated viral marketing also by having a twitter page and other big social media sites to gain more and more publicity than they already had. and not only this many big companies across various media forms were holding competitions for example over radio and magazines

hunger games case study
production:
The
hunger games catching fire movie had huge budget of 130,000,000 which was
gained by the large success of the first movie( the hunger games) which had a
budget of 78,000,000 but in the opening weekend it gained $152,535,747 and by
the 31st of
august it has a $407,999,255 gross which paved way for the long awaited second
movie that is based on the second book and the second book has the reputation
to be the best out of the trilogy
This
film was directed by Wolfgang Petersen who has also directed 2004’s Troy and
1984’s the Neverending
story both films are loved and held dear across the world and are revered as
classics so people who didn't know much about the books knew that he was the director and the film
was expected to be close to a masterpiece with a big budget, big fan base and a
respected and experienced director
The writer Simon Beaufoy is also respected and
experienced and is known for 127 hours and Slumdog millionaire. With this all
star team brought together on one project people expected the film one of the
best of 2013 and is considered to be one of the best films of the year evan though thier were many great films in 2013
marketing:
The hunger
games catching fire movie had a wide
array of marketing techniques. They used posters and sponsor ships like they
had with subway just before the film came out their was a sub representing the
new movie they done this to always keep
the movie in the public eye because you would subconsciously think of the movie
as your eating the sub
They also took up a lot of space on
buses where only the biggest movies can do which kept them in the public eye
again. They also used adverts to reach all audiences which shows why they are
with both subway and cover girl to reach more audiences with their ads
The hunger games movie is also
using viral marketing to keep themselves in the public eye using the biggest
medias mediums to generate chat and awareness for the movie but this also
allows free chat about the movie on these mediums to their friend family or any
one they want to tell about the movie which increases the awareness for the
movie tenfold
exhibition:
The film was premiered in a great
fashion on London's red carpet and set off a great buzz for the movie. Also big
magazines like kerrang and
ok were running competitions for tickets to the movie premiere allowing people
to try and win tickets. The movie was shown in nearly every movie theatre
showing it is a big name film
